Greetings, Riverdale Middle School Spartan Family. My name is Taji Givens, and I bring you greetings as your 2024-2025 Student Engagement Specialist. I am excited about my role as the Student Engagement Specialist this year as I bring forth a wealth of knowledge and experience from case management, social work, and education.  My role is to keep students connected at school with learning to develop a positive pattern for students and focus on promoting the students’ educational success. My focus will be on students’ grades, attendance, and behavior. I will also support teachers and parents with ongoing, honest, solution-oriented communication and persistent outreach to students and families. I will also address any concerns and gather ideas for interventions. I want to ensure that ALL students attend classes regularly, are on time, succeed, complete homework and assignments, stay in school, and be involved in activities.

     My accountability for building trusting relationships with students

  • I will hold the student accountable for his/her behavior and performance
  • I will be accessible to the students, teachers, and family
  • I will make a long-term commitment to the student
  • I will establish a systematic method of communication with the student and parent(s)
  • I will model the desired behavior for the student
  • I will discuss the student’s level of school performance and behavior with him/her
  • I will maintain positive and honest communication with Teachers, Staff, and Parents
  • I will observe/Monitor students in his/her classrooms and/or virtual settings
  • I will strengthen the family-school relationship
  • I will ensure that parents have the information they need to support their student’s education
